I have now been in Curaçao for 3.5 months and I have been to Punda several times a week for a walk. After all this time I thought I had seen everything in Willemstad. A friend of mine had done the City Walk and came back with a lot more information. For that reason, I wanted to experience this too.
The meeting point was at Wilhelminaplein, at the large letters of “Dushi”. It’s a nice place to meet, right at the most well-known word of Curaçao. There is also a lot of information regarding Curaçao at the letters, which the guide certainly gave. We went past the Synagogue to the Waterfort. I was certainly fascinated by the fort, especially getting up close to it. I immediately saw a monument that has for sure impressed many people. Very nice to see and experience.
Punda, Willemstad
We continue on the road next to the Waterfort as we are walking, we are told a lot of information, which instantly makes the experience a lot richer. We come across something that truly represents Curaçao and an Iguana. Besides the fact that they make soup from Iguanas here, you will find them on some beaches and here at Wilhelminaplein in large numbers. Many people thought they were nice to see and take pictures of, but the iguanas are not as popular to take pictures then the letters of Curaçao we walked to next. You will be amazed at what you can see and learn about Curaçao in just over half an hour.
Then we walked further into Punda, through side streets we were taken to the artistic side of Curaçao, we were allowed to meet the Chichi’s of Serana’s Art Factory and Art by Eve. I am always a fan of the side streets in Punda, where you often come across the nicest things. We walked further through Punda and passed through decorated streets. This really made the city walk special and it was something unique.
We could not skip the oldest synagogue either and from there we went towards the round market and the Floating Market. The feeling amongst the locals was complete as we could taste typical local food from Curaçao at Sweet Indulgence. From here we headed towards the main road to the Governor’s Palace, to admire it from the outside and from the courtyard. From there we went to Otrobanda.
