10 Best Park & Nature Attractions on Curaçao

Curaçao has plenty to experience and its nature is certainly one you want to take all in. Its sub-tropical vegetation and the animals that cohabit with us are all more fascinating than you would imagine both above and underwater. Experience it all by visiting one of the many nature attractions on Curaçao.

 

1. Shete Boka National Park

Shete Boka National Park is by far the most popular park on the island. The water activity is so unique that a visit to Curaçao is not complete without visiting this nature attraction on Curaçao. The park consists of a total of 7 inlets (shete boka). The rough waves of on the east side crashes against the rocks making the waves completely explode and splash upwards.

 

2. Christoffel Park

If you want to really experience the nature of Curaçao in all it’s glory than a visit to Christoffel Park is exactly what you want. The park consists of many hiking trails, caves, dirt roads (for cars), and the popular Christoffel Mountain, the highest mountain of Curaçao with a beautiful view of the island. This park is the breeding spot of many birds, houses different animal and plant species. The bonus of this nature attraction is the history behind the park as it once was a slave plantation.

 

3. Flamingo Sanctuary Sint Willibrordus

Perhaps not exactly a park-like you have in mind, but it’s certainly one popular nature attraction on Curaçao. Many visitors will come for the palm trees, beaches, and flamingoes, the poster child of island vibes. While there are many places to marvel at these elegant pink birds, at the Flamingo Sanctuary in Sint Willibrordus you get to see them up close without disturbing their peace. A beautiful view, of course!

 

4. Curaçao Sea Aquarium

The Curaçao Sea Aquarium is a fun nature activity on Curaçao if you’re visiting with kids. At the Curaçao Sea Aquarium, you can visit the sea aquarium, interact with dolphins at Dolphin Academy, snorkel in the Animal Encounters lagoon, and explore the underwater world with the submarine of Substation Curaçao or with the observatory of Ocean Lens Curaçao.

 

5. Hato Caves

Curaçao consists of many caves. At Hato Caves, the biggest cave on the island, you can experience the cave with more comfort. It’s one of the most beautiful and public friendly caves on the island of Curaçao. During a tour through the cave, you’ll learn how Curaçao is formed by different terraces. You’ll learn the “materials” that forms the island and the relationship between land and water.

 

 

6. Den Paradera – Dinah’s Botanic & Historic Garden

Den Paradera is one of those nature activities on Curaçao where history meets the environment. Curaçao is a community that has always had a close relationship with nature. After the slave period, nature was the only thing most people had so it’s natural that even to this day you can see how nature is entwined with the culture.

7. Ostrich Farm

Take a seat in one in one of the safari jeeps, drive through the Ostrich Farm and learn everything about these species. At the end of the tour, you’ll even be able to feed them and test the force of an Ostrich egg by balancing on it. This a great activity for young and old.

8. Hòfi Pastor

A serene park in Banda Abou to take a hike. The park is approximately 12 hectares with a diverse eco structure. This place is also known for the huge kapok tree that is houses of 800 years old.

9. Den Dunki Park

A park just a few minutes from the historic center of Willemstad with a fairly closed dense forest to give you plenty of cooling and shade. This park is also one of the entrances to the Jan Thiel Salt Pans. While the park is not big, it’s still a nice place for a morning walk.

10. Jan Thiel Salt Pans

One of the popular nature attractions on Curacao for hikers is the Jan Thiel Salt Pans. Not only is it easily accessible and not too hard to walk, but it also offers you a great view of the flamingoes living in that area.
